Similarities and Differences in the Home Life of the North and South
Similarities:
Women and children in both the South and North had to take on jobs men used to do before they went off to war.
Both sides experienced food shortages and both sides had their homes damaged from the war.
Both sides had family splitting apart during the war and both sides experienced hardship while their family was away or killed.
Differences:
Homes in the South were stolen from and burned down during the Civil War and especially during Sherman's March to Sea.
The South experienced worse food shortages than the North, especially during the Siege of Vicksburg.
Women and children had to work on the farm which was harder labor, while women and children in the North worked in factories.
After the Civil War was over, the South no longer had a labor system and their economy was a disaster. On the other hand, the North didn't have any major problems to fix.
